BPC realize that the significance of the Palestinian Pharmaceutical Industry
extends far beyond the size of its revenues; our vision is to be the backbone
of the health care security system in Palestine with a superior quality
products.
BIRZEIT PALESTINE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY (BPC) is the new name given after
March 13, 1993 merger of two companies, Birzeit Pharmaceutical Co. and
Palestine Medical Co. In the year 2000, Birzeit - Palestine Pharmaceutical
Company took over Eastern Chemical Company and changed its name to Belpharm,
to become one of BPC's affiliate companies.
BPC manufactures a wide range of drugs in many forms, addressing virtually
every therapeutic segment. Careful planning and the use of modern and
innovative production systems enabled the company's local market share
to increase to 23%. By the end of 1996, BPC initiated its export market
program, opening markets in Eastern Europe, Ukraine, and the Middle East.
BPC's success in penetrating the local market has led it to develop external
markets for its products. Volume export markets have been opened for its
products in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The company is currently
evaluating opportunities to extend its export network to new markets on
the basis of solid contractual relationships with qualified agents and
/ or distributors.
Product quality has been the main concern of the Birzeit - Palestine Pharmaceutical
Company since it was established in 1973. More than 10% of the 212 BPC
employees work in its Quality Control and R&D departments. All highly
qualified and experienced in the use of modern techniques in quality control
and research.
Major new investment totalling USD 2.5 million was spent to automate production
on the suppository, liquid, and tablet lines, which led to an increase
in product quality and production efficiency. BPC is continually upgrading
its plants and facilities to comply with international standards.
INSTALLED CAPACITY
The installed capacity of various types per 7 working hours shift is given
in table "1", whereas the production figures for these units
for the year 2000 are provided in table "2".

BIRZEIT PLANT, located in Birzeit, 35 km north of Jerusalem, the size
of the plant is 4000 sq. meters.
PENICILLIN PLANT, located in Ramallah Industrial zone, 20 km north
of Jerusalem, the size of the plant is 2200 sq. meters.
STERILE PRODUCTS PLANT, located in Ramallah industrial zone 20 km.
North of Jerusalem, the size of the plant is 2600 sq. meters.
CENTRAL STORES, located in Ramallah Industrial zone 20 km north of
Jerusalem, the size of the plant is 11000 cubic meters.
MARKETING CENTER, located in Al Bireh 20 km. north of Jerusalem,
the size of the center is 350 sq. meters.
SALES STORES, located in Ramallah Industrial zone 20 km, north of
Jerusalem, the size of the stores is 800 sq. meters.
EASTERN COMPANY PLANT, located in Ramallah Industrial zone 20 km.
North of Jerusalem, the size of the plant is 3600 sq. meters.
